LCDR Charles S. White Jr.

Lieutenant Commander C.S. White is from Maryland. He has earned a Masters Degree in Wind Conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, a Masters in Humanities from California State University Dominguez Hills, and a Bachelors in Horn Performance from Towson University. He enlisted as a Horn Instrumentalist in the Navy in 1991. He attended recruit training in Orlando, Florida and completed the Basic Music Course at the Navy School of Music, Little Creek, Virginia.

He served enlisted tours of duty with the Atlantic Fleet Band, Norfolk, Virginia; Navy Band New Orleans; CINCSOUTH Band, Naples, Italy; Navy Band Southwest, San Diego, California and The Naval School of Music, Norfolk, Virginia. He has completed  the Navy’s Unit Leader and Senior Musician Courses. While in the Senior Musician Course he was initiated as and promoted to Chief Petty Officer as well as selected for commissioning as a Limited Duty Officer (Bandmaster). He was commissioned in June 2006 and has served officer tours as Assistant Director, U.S. Fleet Forces Band, Norfolk, VA; Director, Navy Band Fleet Support Unit and Training Support Officer, Naval School of Music, Virginia Beach, VA; Director, Navy Band Mid-South, Millington, TN; Deputy Program Manager, Navy Music Program, Millington, TN; and Director, U.S. Fleet Forces Band, Norfolk VA. He was selected for the Navy’s Post Graduate Education Program at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and is now assigned as Director, U.S. Naval Forces Europe Band in Naples, Italy.

He has performed with various professional groups throughout the U.S. and Europe. He is an active conductor, performer, clinician, composer and arranger. His composition Fanfare for Ian and Elena was one of seven winners of the Dallas Wind Symphony Brass Fanfare competition for 2007-2008 and his composition Right Brain Killed Left won the 2010 Project of the Year at California State University Dominguez Hills.

LCDR White’s personal military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2 awards) Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), as well as numerous other unit and personal awards.
